The retro tunes that your wedding reception needs
Sure, there is a good chance that your guests are going to want to hear some of the most modern and up to date songs during the evening, but sometimes the best way to get them grooving is with a bit of a retro classic.
But why?
“Music is like a smell” (stick with us on this one…)
“With so many of our brides and grooms being aged between their late twenties to late thirties they all grew up during what is now known as the ‘old-school period’ in terms of music.
“The memory of the first time you heard your favourite track back in the day will be embedded in your memory so when you hear it again, all of your happy memories come flooding back!”
So it makes perfect sense – why wouldn’t you want the music you grew up partying to, to be played at your wedding?
But what are the best songs from days gone by to have at your wedding reception? Let’s look at the line-up.
Show Me Love – Robin S
If this (massive) tune doesn’t get everyone at your wedding on their feet then we’re not sure what will. Guests who don’t get up and dance to this one need to leave, no one needs friends like that in their life.
Sorry – Monsta Boy
Garage-loving couples will be transported back to the best time of their lives with this song. It’s one of those songs that you forget existed and then it comes on and you remember what happiness really feels like – no exaggeration.
Dreamer – Livin Joy
“I’M A DREEEAAMMEERR-ERR-ERR-ERR”
Turn Me On- Kevin Little
If you want to fill the floor, then this world famous tune is one that definitely needs to appear. It should be played an hour or two into the night, just to make sure that everyone is limbered up and in no time at all, you will find that everyone soon heads to the dance floor.
Yeah- Usher
There is a good chance that plenty of your guests will have harboured dreams of being a bit of an R & B superstar in their youth. This will definitely show up if you play this club hit. Although we can’t promise you that you will be impressed with their moves.
Everybody- Backstreet Boys
Another classic tune that will get some people bringing out some classic moves is this boyband classic. A favourite of so many, not only will this get everyone dancing, but it is a sure fire way to make sure that everyone is smiling too.
Just in Case – Jaheim
One for the couples, old and new. It’s a ‘wrap your arms around each other and sway as one’ kind of song and is a great choice to play after the first dance to get more and more people to join you and your partner underneath the disco ball.
Insomnia – Faithless
Whether you’re a raver today or you were a raver 20 years ago, you’ll be able to vibe with this song – it guarantees three things, a packed dance floor, all hands in the air and truly dedicated voices chanting along to the words.
Some Tunes for the Ladies!!!!
Wannabe- Spice Girls
You might think that this song is only going to appeal to the girls at your reception, but that really isn’t true. Whilst guys might not have spent time learning the dances moves to this 90s classic, there is a good chance that they will have spend plenty of time watching the vide, and that is the same thing we are sure!
Everybody- Backstreet Boys
Another classic tune that will get some people bringing out some classic moves is this boyband classic. A favourite of so many, not only will this get everyone dancing, but it is a sure fire way to make sure that everyone is smiling too
The Time of My Life- Dirty Dancing
This is an incredibly popular tune that is popular with a wide range of age groups. Whilst it is definitely a tune that is going to get people on the dancefloor, you need to make sure that no-one attempts to try “the lift” else they may be spending the rest of your reception at the hospital.
As you can see, there are plenty of tunes out there that can really make your reception go with a bang. Seeing as it is a chance for you to party and celebrate being with everyone that is important to you, then we think that it’s a good idea to see how best to get the party going Its what we do here at Discologic Kent and London’s Number wedding DJ service!!!
